Sons of the Konza Prairie

WESTERN MUSIC ASSOCIATION HARMONY DUO CHAMPION 2006

The Konza Prairie is a series of rolling hills and grassy plains south of Manhattan, Kansas, near where Mark and Jacob Henkel live with their family.
Mark and Jacob are a father and son musical duo that enjoys singing songs of the old west. Mark was raised in Willcox, Arizona, where the influence of Rex Allen and local ranchers gave Mark a lifelong love for the open land, western music, and real cowboys. He has passed this passion for all things western on to his son, Jacob. Together, these two sing about and live out the values that were taught by their western heroes: never take unfair advantage of others, always tell the truth, be kind and helpful to all, work hard, stay clean, respect God, womanhood, your parents, the law, and your country.
They were awarded First Place in the Vocal Group Category at both the 2004 & 2005 Clifton-Vining Music Festivals in Clifton, Kansas. Listening to the Sons of the Konza Prairie brings back the days of cattle calls and finding time to connect with God on the trail.

John Ingram and I were judges at The Clifton Kansas Music Days the year we met Mark Henkel. I was very impressed
with his talent and have watched him grow as he branched out and began appearing regularly at some of the better known festivals. Mark has added his handsome young son
to the act and are now known as The Sons of the Konza Prairie and what an addition this young man is. Mark
has a wonderful voice and his shows have always included
Country, Western and Gospel tunes but with the addition
of 15 year old Jacob Henkel playing the bass and adding his vocals to the act, this Father-Son Duo will soon be strong competition for the other duo-groups out there.
